There are a few Mayan vestiges in Cancun located in the Hotel Zone.
Cancun was actually founded after a study in 1967 to determine the feasibility of capturing more dollars and other foreign exchange through tourism.
Development started in 1970 when Cancun only had a few residents. Today over 750,000 people live in Cancun.
